Can I Have Invisalign Treatment At The Same Time As Having Periodontal Treatment?

Q.
Hi, what is your opinion on receiving aligners at the same time as having treatment for gum disease? I want to surprise my family when I visit them in Australia in 6 months time. I’ve always had a misaligned smile with large gaps and I think this is why my gums are in such poor health. I’m already being treated for my gums and looking for a dentist who would be willing to supply me with a brace system at the same time. Do you know of any? I live in Shrewsbury. Thanks for your time!
A.
Hi, thank you for your question. It is not advisable to undergo any orthodontic treatment until your gums and oral health are on top form. Wait until you have been fully treated for the gum disease, and when it is no longer present you’ll be able to start Invisalign treatment.
