How Much Should I Be Paying For A Vivera Retainer?

Q.
Hello Dr Thorne, I hope you can help.i have now come to finish my invisalign full top and bottom aligners.i received my vivera bottom aligner for night time a few months ago,but was still having treatment for the top teeth untill recently.my dentist has told me im not entitled to the vivera unless i want to pay extra? this was not the case for my bottom one so i find this a bit strange.he went onto say invisalign have changed there contract and no longer supply the 3 sets of vivera that originaly were inc in the full price i paid of £4000.are you able to shed any light on this as my dentist is a bit cagey about it? also hes said that in the future if i need a replacement vivera it will cost me, are you able to confirm to me how much this will cost as again hes baing cagey about it aswell.
any help/advise you can give me would be great as im not happy and need to pluck up the courage to contact him to dispute it.im currently wearing my last invisalign aligner on top and have been for about 3 months now and i know that i shouldnt be and should have a sturdy retianer for night time.thank you
A.
Hi, Vivera retainers are recommended by Invisalign as their preferred retainer – they are 30% stronger than regular removable retainers. For 3 identical sets they invoice the dentist but whether this is included in your original quote or not is between you and the dentist as this will have been for time and parts and should have been discussed at your acceptance of the treatment plan.
Once you have received the 3 sets of Vivera retainers, more can be ordered in batches of 3, but there will be the Vivera / retainer fee again as Invisalign need to manufacture further sets.
Hope that helps
