I am worried about the pressure of braces on my teeth, is Invisalign a good option?

Q.
how much pressure does invisalign put on the teeth? I had braces when I was younger that were fixed and i have never felt pain like it. I stuck with them for a month but then could not take it any longer and had to have them out. I am now 30 and would really love to have a decent smile, but i have been put off for years by the thought of all that pain again! I though id ask about invisalign, just as it isn’t a fixed brace, so i was hoping that it wouldn’t be as painful. Am i right in thinking this, or are there any other braces that would be even gentler? Im not worried about how long it takes as long as it gets done.

thank you doctor

Hi
Invisalign is designed to produce the optimal force for tooth movement with the least amount of discomfort with small tooth movements each aligner (which you change every 2 weeks). There are other options depending on how many and how complex the tooth movements required are. Fixed braces (the original type of brace – ‘train tracks’) can produce less force with a ‘lighter’ wire that is slowly increased.
I would advise a consultation with someone who is competent in both systems to discuss your concerns – it will be worth it in the long run!
Good luck
