I Have Sensitive Teeth. Will Invisalign Irritate My Teeth And Gums?

Q.
Hello there Dr. Solanki. I do hope you can help me. I’m 26 years old and I have quite badly crooked teeth and I have wanted to do something about them for a long time. However, my teeth are very sensitive to most things, I’m afraid that the Invisalign treatment (which I would prefer as they are hardly noticeable) would irritate my gums and teeth. Do you think that it would affect my teeth, and what would you suggest is the best orthodontic route for someone with sensitive teeth?
A.
Hello! Thank you for your question. The best thing for you to do first would be to find out what causes your teeth to be sensitive. For example, it could be the result of decay or old fillings etc. or it could be due to gum recession. Sensitive teeth and gums can also be caused by smoking or consuming certain products such as fizzy drinks. When you know what the cause is, your dentist will be able to advise you on which orthodontic treatment is best. Invisalign is a gentler way of straightening mis-aligned teeth, but other gentle orthodontic treatments are Damon Braces and Six Month Smiles. Hope you find this useful!
