I Need Your Advice As I Have Lost My Retainer, What Can I Do?

Q.
Hello Dr Thorne, I really need your help and advice. I have lost my final Invisalign retainer, what can I do? I’m worried about what my orthodontist will think and say. Will I have to pay extra for spares? What happens If I leave it, will my teeth start to go back to their old position? Thank you, I really hope you can offer some advice and help me with this!

Hi, hello. If you don’t have any spares, you should contact your dentist ASAP, to have more Vivera retainers manufactured for you….you will probably need a holding retainer until they are delivered, unless you have your final Invisalign aligner, but your dentist will be able to advise on what to do next. When you get your new retainer find a way of keeping it safe. It is important to get your retainer replaced as the teeth will start drifting back and you don’t won’t to undo all the good work as this can be expensive, so try to get this sorted out as soon as possible!
Good luck, Dr Adam Thorne.
