Is It Normal To Wait This Long For Treatment?

Q.
My Invisalign dentist has been paid in full in March of last year, I have completed all of the scans, had my teeth moulds done and viewed my 3D model. The last time I visited them was in June 2012 and yet I still have not started my treatment.

Everytime I chase them they say they are waiting for the trays to arrive from America and there has been a delay due to the new technology that has been introduced. Is this normal?

After researching the dentist on line I have found hundreds of other patients in the same position and some saying the actual invisalign treatment they eventually received was so bad they had had to pay for corrective surgery on their teeth.

This has made me very nervous about even completing my treatment.

Is there an Invisalign code of practice? Or some standard that needs to be kept so a dentist can treat patients with Invisalign?

Any guidance you can give is greatly appreciated as it looks like I will be pursuing a full refund and would like to arm myself with as much information as possible.

Many thanks

A.
Hi
I would discuss this directly with the dentist / their practice. It isn’t common for you to wait so long – the simulation should be available 2-3 weeks after the impressions (moulds) and then the Invisalign aligners manufactured and ready 2-3 weeks after this is approved with you and your dentist.
If it has been this long I would ask for a full explanation and a refund if you don’t feel comfortable with their proposed treatment.
Good luck
