Is it usual to require more aligners beyond the suggestion treatment time?

Q.
hello dr

is it usual for invisalign treatment to take longer than was first diagnosed-so to speak! I though it would only be twelve months, but now my dentist wants me to have another two months of braces. I just wanted to make sure tht this was common practice mainly because i think my teeth look perfect now. What do you think is my best course of action?
thank you for your help on the matter,

A.
Hi! In about 18-20% of the cases, a few more aligners are required to achieve the wanted result and it is called refinement. If you are 100% happy with the alignment of your teeth though, it is worth mentioning it to your dentist as you may be able to finish the treatment earlier. On the other hand your dentist might have spotted something you haven’t and thinks this is the best way to go. Please talk to your dentist and I am sure you can work it out! Best Wishes, Vasileia.
