Is My Dentist Trying To Con Me With Expensive Braces Costs?

Q.
Hi Adam, here’s my problem: I personally don’t think I need braces, I’m convinced that a couple of veneers would simply do the trick. I think my dentist is trying to con me, I don’t know how to go about approaching the subject. I’ve already expressed my concerns because the gap is tiny but he’s saying I need fixed braces! Can you please advise me, honestly, I don’t think I’m going to get the right treatment. He says I’ll have to wear them for at least a year!

Hi
Thanks for the question. There are often many solutions to solve a problem and as dentists we try to be conservative, moving your teeth into a better position if possible. You should also look at the relationship of these teeth with your adjacent teeth and if just veneering these will make your smile unbalanced. However if you don’t feel comfortable I would suggest a second opinion with a dentist with cosmetic and orthodontic experience for their views.
Good luck
Adam
