My Teeth Are Still Not Straight After 23 Months, What Can I Do?

Q.
Hi Dr Sepehrara,

I’ve been having Invisalign treatment for nearly 23 months now and my teeth are still a very far cry from straight. My dentist hasn’t been great to be honest and he initially predicted that it would take 8-12 months to sort out my crooked teeth but it’s now been pretty much 2 years and barely anything has changed. My dentist is now suggesting alternatives such as veneers but I’ve already paid over £3000 for Invisalign so that I’d have natural straight teeth. I’m currently on my 3rd set of refinements. What can be done about this?

A.
Hello, thank you for your question. I’m sorry to hear about your experience, unfortunately there are rare occasions where the teeth just don’t respond to the treatment. My suggestion would be to first speak to your dentist in detail about the problems you are having, as they have monitored the treatment from the beginning. If they don’t feel that your orthodontic issues can be fixed by Invisalign, before thinking about alternatives I think you should request a referral to consultant orthodontist for a second opinion. I hope this is useful, and good luck.
