Is It Bad to Wear Aligners at Night?

August 21st, 2014
Q.

Hi. I would really like to have Invisalign treatment, they sound by far the best of all the braces I’ve been reading up on, but I’m worried about wearing them during the night. I’ve heard that wearing aligners when you’re asleep is really bad for your oral health and can cause plaque to build up.I’m hoping it’s just a horror story with no truth in it and obviously I would keep my teeth and aligners clean. But before I go ahead with this I’d just like to double check with an expert like your good selves.

My Aligners Cause Me a Lot of Pain. What Can I Do?

July 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hi, I have been suffering with a lot of pain during my Invisalign treatment, and it gets worse with every new set of aligners. My gums are sore and swollen and I feel like I constantly have mouth ulcers. My dentist says this is bound to happen. I imagined it would be painful at first but it is really just constant all the time. Due to the amount of pain it causes I keep having to take them out so I’m worried that they’re not working as they should because I don’t have them in long enough. I haven’t told my orthodontist that I take them out because I don’t want him to be angry. What should I do?

Can I Switch From Damon Braces to 6 Month Smiles?

June 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello, I was wondering if it’s possible to switch treatments. I recently had Damon braces fitted, but then I found out about 6 Month Smiles afterwards and they sound better. Can I have the Damon braces removed and replaced with 6 Month Smiles? The reason I’ve got braces is to adjust my front teeth into a better position. The lower 2 and upper 3 are slightly crooked and I’ve previously had 3 teeth removed.

My periodontist and orthodontist have different opinions about my teeth

August 25th, 2011
Q.

I am a 40 year old, faced with a delimma. I have seen a Periodontist recommended by my Dentist for severe gum recession, most probably caused by grinding my teeth at night related to tooth overcrowding.
The Periodontist recommends extensive gum grafting for approximately 14 teeth! When I recently visited with my Dentist, she recommends that I have the Invisalign treatment done to correct ‘crowding’ BEFORE the gum grafting, because if I get the grafting done first, it would be “just like putting a bandaid on the problem”. Of course, the Periodontist feels that the gum grafting should come first. Can you PLEASE help clarify, in your opinion, which should come first?
Thank You!
