Hi Dr. Akere, I’m wondering if you can help me out. I want braces and Invisalign seem like the best choice, but I’m one of these people that seems to be allergic to everything! What are aligners made of, and do they contain any harmful materials? I really don’t want a bad reaction in my mouth! Thank you.

Hello, thanks for contacting me. The aligners are made of a clear plastic material. I only know of one case in which a patient had an allergic reaction from them, but all they had to do was soak them in water for about a week before wearing them and after that there was no problem. Speak to your dentist or maybe even your doctor to discuss your allergies, but hopefully you will be fine with Invisalign aligners. Good luck!
