I am now at the end of my Invisalign treatment and am happy with the results/positioning of my teeth.
I’m now ready for retainers…. but I am informed that these will cost extra? I was strongly under the impression that retainers were included in the Invisalign treatment package?
Also, I am being informed that the Invisalign retainers can be quite expensive for what they are… and that another make of retainer might be a better option. Does this not go against the grain? This also concerns me.
I just want the very best available to do the job… Obviously I don’t want my teeth to suffer after going through the expense and effort.
I will, of course, discuss this with my orthodontist, but I feel that the advice I may receive will financially be in the interest of the practice… rather than for the good of my teeth.
Without you sitting on the fence, I’d really appreciate your expert opinion and advice on this. Thank you very much in advance.
Hi there! Retention of your teeth will be necessary after the completion of your treatment. Invisalign make their own branded removable retainers that come in a package of 3 sets. Your orthodontist is right though, they are quite expensive because the lab fee is very high. In our practice, if there is a choice and that depends on each case, we offer the option of removable or fixed retainers. We provide the removable retainers for free with Invisalign (but they are not the branded invisalign retainers) and the fixed ones with an extra charge. Unfortunately, Invisalign at the moment do not provide their retainers in the treatment pack price. Bear in mind that the removable retainers need to be replaced every 18months-2 years because of the wear on them, but a fixed retainer with a little bit of care can take over 10 years before it needs replacement.
