What Is The Best Treatment To Fix My Cross-Bite?

Q.
Hello. I have a mild cross-bite. It’s been bothering me for some time now. It’s only really noticeable when I smile but I grind my teeth in my sleep, which obviously won’t help the matter! I think it’s making my bite worse! I’m looking into braces to help the situation, is there anything that you can recommend before I approach an orthodontist? I don’t really know what to ask for. Is there any brace that is especially for a cross-bite? Thank you!
A.
Hello, thank you for your question. I would have to see you to get a better idea of which treatment would be best, but I can offer some suggestions. Invisalign can improve cross-bites, but it’s not typically designed for this purpose. However, as you say the cross-bite is only mild, you may be a suitable Invisalign candidate. A short course of fixed braces prior to Invisalign is also an option. The best thing do to would be to ask your orthodontist as they can see you in person and assess the right kind of treatment for you. Good luck!
