Will Invisalign treatment affect my speech?

Q.
Hi, do the aligners make you speak differently? My sister had the Inman Aligner and she had a few problems with her speaking and saliva. It has calmed down now but I am worried that I will have the same problem with Invisalign. I am a teaching assistant so it is important that I can speak clearly.
If it does affect speech then is there any other similar braces that are discreet where it doesn’t affect your speech?
Thanks Doctor!

Hi there! Just to reassure you that Invisalign is totally different than the Inman aligner. The Inman aligner has a thick plastic and metal part that sits on the inside of your teeth and a plastic thick part that sits on the outside where your lips are. This makes every single patient I treated with this brace lisp significantly. Invisalign looks and feels nothing like an Inman aligner and none of my patients have complained of altered speech or spitting saliva! Hope that helps, Vasileia.
