Will Invisalign work for my 14 year old daughter?

Q.
Hello,
My daughter was told a few years ago that in time she would need braces for both her upper and lower teeth. She is 14 and really doesn’t want braces for the usual teenage reasons for wanting to look nice, not to be picked on etc
She has been doing her own internet research and had found out about Invisalign and now will talk about nothing else.
I am aware that you cant get these on the NHS so it would be costly for me and I am worried that because you can take them out that she will take advantage of this when I am not around to see her. What is your opinion?
A.
There is a way to actually monitor the wear of the aligners for your teenage daughter. The aligners for teenagers have indicators on them that indicate if the patient has been wearing the brace as instructed. The issue with that though is that you would have already committed to the treatment. I would suggest that you have a honest conversation with your daughter and explain to her that it is a treatment that will cost you and that we can monitor her compliance. The brace itself is very discreet and works exceptionally well for the right candidates. My youngest patient is 13 years old and we have never experienced any compliance issues with any of our teenage patients. Hope that helps, Vasileia.
