Would Invisalign be effective to get rid of my cross bite?

Q.
Hi Dr Thorne, I’m a 32 year old full time business woman and mother of 3 and I have terrible teeth. When I was younger, I was told I didn’t need braces but as I’ve grown up my teeth have gotten progressively worse and now they’re just awful. They’re really affecting my confidence and need to be sorted out as soon as possible. But I’m afraid braces will seriously affect the way I’m perceived by my work colleagues with big metal braces. However my teeth are very severely crossed. I have a cross bite and my teeth are all crushing into each other and are now causing me a lot of pain. Is Invisalign going to be as effective in straightening my teeth as a metal brace?
Thank you doctor, I look forward to hearing your response.

Hi,  It depends on how far the teeth have to move, whether Invisalign will be suitable or as efficient as a metal brace. The good news is that if it isn’t then you have two other options rather than the metal fixed braces – one is clear / tooth coloured fixed braces eg ‘Damon Clear’, the other are braces on the inside of the teeth, known as lingual braces, eg ‘Incogito’.
I would suggest a consultation with someone experienced in all these treatments to see what can be used.
Good luck
