Dr Sepehrara's Profile

I am a general dentist and I practice in Leicester. I am a forum moderator for the Invisalignguide forum as I have great interest in Orthodontics and really enjoy carrying out such treatments.

Orthodontics is the field of dentistry dedicated to straightening teeth in order to improve function and aesthetics. The changes seen after orthodontic treatment are dramatic and not only do they boost the patient’s confidence, but they also help maintaining a healthy mouth. Once the crooked or malpositioned teeth are straightened, patients find it so much easier to brush their teeth and floss.

I feel that orthodontics is a great way to give a patient a smile makeover as it is a conservative approach as it does not require removal of tooth structure, as seen with crowns and veneers

There are various types of orthodontics treatments available, each one having their own advantages and indications. I have trained extensively in the UK and in the USA so I could offer all types of orthodontic treatment to my patients. I am also currently advancing through a MSc in Orthodontics

The types of teeth straightening treatments I offer to patients are:

  1. Invisalign - Invisalign is a system which consists of clear aligners especially and individually made in the USA. Invisalign is great as it is discreet and great results can be achieved with this form of treatment.
  2. Inman aligner – The Inman aligner is a removable brace that can straighten the front 4 teeth very quickly. Treatment times can be from as little as 6 weeks to 6 months. I always tell my patients that if they wear the aligner as often as possible, the treatment will be much quicker.
  3. Six Month Smiles – Having been the first dentist to offer this type of treatment in the UK I have a wealth of experience with this system. Six month smiles treatment involves the use of tooth coloured brackets and wires and use of low forces to move teeth and to straighten them in an average time of 5 to 9 months.
  4. Damon Braces – this is a revolutionary system that can treat even the more complex types of malocclusions in less time than conventional train-tracks. Due to the special design of the brackets and wires, only low forces are applied on the teeth, which as a result move more quickly and at the same do not ache as much as they would with conventional brackets.

Part of my orthodontic assessment to see whether a patient is an ideal candidate for any of the treatments above consists in:

  1. clinical examination to assess the health of teeth and gums and oral hygiene and to assess the profile, how the teeth meet etc
  2. radigraphical examination to assess the health of the teeth and bone and any abnormalities
  3. moulds to study the bite and assess the crowding and spacing
  4. photos to examine the position of the teeth even in more detail

Once all of that data has been collected and analysed, I can inform the patient whether they would be able to have orthodontic treatment and which type of treatment is better indicated for their case.

I also like to finish off an orthodontic smile makeover with teeth whitening to optimise the results. In some cases patients also request to have lip plumping or reshaping, to ensure that their beautiful straight teeth are framed by beautiful lips.
