How can I correct my overcrowded teeth?

Q.
I am 28 years old and I have crowded teeth both up and bottom. When I was young (17-18 years old) I had metal-fixed braces for about 2 years which fixed the problem but as soon as I took them off my teeth got their previous position (especially the bottom ones) again maybe because I was not wearing the retainers. I would like my teeth straight again so I am considering having Invisalign (because it is invisible) but I have got some issues: a)I have not got my wisdom teeth yet and I believe that when they come off they will push my teeth making them misaligned again. Would it be so? Should I worry about that? b) When I removed the metal braces which are considered the most effective solution for teeth straightening my teeth got misaligned again. How can I make sure that this will not happen again with the aligners c) Is there any other invisible way to have my teeth straight except from Invisalign? I had a consultation for having Invisalign at a dental clinic in my town. They said that I can have Invisalign but I guess they could say anything in order to have customers I am really confused. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi there! We treat a lot of patients that their teeth relapsed after orthodontic treatment with fixed braces. This is not a fault of the fixed braces, it happens because retainers are not being worn. Anyway you straighten your teeth, i.e. fixed, Invisalign etc, you will need to wear retainers to prevent your teeth from relapsing. We used to believe that wisdom teeth will push the rest of the teeth when they come through, but not any more as there is no evidence supporting that notion. Invisalign is a great system, but retainers are a must after the end of the treatment, as they should be after any orthodontic treatment. Hope that helps, Vasileia.
