I am on my 9th set of Invisalign and a gap has started to appear, are the braces working properly?

Q.
I am on my 9th of 11th set of Invisalign treatment for my upper teeth. I must say that the videos i was supplied with are not looking at all like they will end up by set 11. There has also been a continual gap that has now significantly increased on tray number 9th. This exists on the lower portion of my upper lateral incisor, the tray appears to fit my teeth well apart from this tooth. I work abroad so i have been given 2-3 trays at a time to change with consultations every time i have been back. Is there any advice that you can give me? I have paid 4000 for my treatment and was hoping for pretty flawless result. My teeth were not in that bad a start to start and didn’t really require that much work.

Thanks

A.
Hi Without seeing your initial tooth position it’s difficult to give you an exact explanation, I presume you have been wearing them for 21-22 hours per 24. Some thoughts would be
1. If it is a space between just the tip of the tooth and the aligner there maybe some resistance preventing this tooth aligning – eg is it too crowded in this area?
2. If it is a space between this tooth and the adjacent ones, your dentist may be moving the teeth out (expanding) to allow them to align.
However to reassure you, with Invisalign full there are up to three refinement courses included. I would complete this course (your 11th aligner) then review with your dentist, voice all your concerns about the then tooth position. He will then take further impressions and photos for a new batch of aligners to push the teeth into the position you are both trying to achieve. A final suggestion would be to ask for some overcorrection aligners in this refinement batch to push any ‘stubborn’ teeth a bit further.
Good luck!
