I have finished my treatment, but I am not happy with the results, what can I do?

Q.
I have been using invisalign braces since Oct 2010, and had 10 sets of braces up to August 2011. I then had a further 5 sets of braces because my upper arch was still not aligned. I returned to my dentist at the end of Oct 2011, but the tooth next to my front tooth was still not in line with my arch ( it used to overlap behind my front tooth, it no longer does but is still behind the arch line of my upper teeth). My dentist told me Invisalign has refused further treatment as they have “reached their goal”. I argued that our goal was an aligned upper arch but my dentist just repeated the above. He then put a liquid emanel on top of the tooth to bring it in line with my front tooth and arch. I have had this since Oct 2011, but am not happy with it. The colour is more yellow than my own teeth, and I feel that my treatment is not complete, and not in line with what my dentist said was achievable. I asked if it was a money issue but he did not answer. Please can you advise me what to do – I am due to see my dentist in 2 weeks to have the final part of the treatment – a metal wire at the back of my upper teeth to prevent movement of my teeth back. I don’t see the point of doing this when my teeth are not fully aligned and why do I have to have liquid enamel put over a perfectly healthy tooth ( I have also been told that this discolours easily and needs replacing yearly).
I appreciate any advice you can give.
Many thanks
A.
Hi
It sounds like you have had ‘Invisalign Lite’, rather than ‘Invisalign Full’ which is slightly cheaper but restricts the number of aligners (sets) you can have and is designed for small movements only. It then sounds as if you have had some composite bonding on the tooth to bring it into alignment, but as you say this needs replacing and runs the risk of discolouration long term.
I would suggest you get a holding retainer (similar to an Invisalign aligner) to stop the teeth moving back. Ask you dentist about further orthodontic treatment – this maybe a new course of Invisalign or something such as simpli-5 or small fixed braces to push the teeth into the correct position and remove the composite bonding (liquid enamel) before you have a fixed (wire) retainer.
Good luck
