Is Invisalign suitable for treating very crowded teeth?

Q.
hello,

i’ve been looking into getting invisalign but i have extremely crowded teeth and I wonder if invisalign is strong enough to treat crowded teeth? I also have two crowns will they be affected negatively by invisalign?

thanks

A.
Hi
Yes Invisalign can treat very crowded teeth – the process is the same to regular fixed braces where we need to assess the cause of crowding and where we get the space to align the teeth – this can be by moving the teeth out (widening the smile), small adjustments between the teeth or removing some teeth if the crowding is really extreme – and Invisalign can cope with all of this.
Regular crowns can be moved with Invisalign and this is a good treatment as it requires nothing to be attached to them (compared to regular braces). If they are more heavily restored (eg with a root filling or post crown also) I would suggest any tooth movement is treated with caution.
Good luck

Hi, my 11 year old daughter has just had an appt. with an orthodentist. She has been advised that she need top and bottom braces and 4 large teeth removing, 2 top and 2 bottom to help with overcrowding. She is really upset about this. She did know that she would need a brace but we didnt think it was going to be so drastic. We have discussed it and she would feel better if she just had a top brace fitted. She isn’t looking foward to having her ‘healthy’ teeth removed. I have been looking into alternatives to metal. Do you think the invisalign would be suitable, or is there such a thing as a white brace? I would really appreciate your help. Thankyou so much
