I’ve just had my braces removed and my teeth look bigger.

Q.
I had my braces removed after 18 months (upper ceramic and lower metal) 3 months ago. My teeth are bigger as a result, especially the two front teeth. I’ve been told that this is as a result of the bone reforming/changing shape and not because they have been pulled from the gums. I’m disappointed with the result. Will the teeth eventually shorten after a period of time? The top 2 rows are also slightly pushed outwards and i smile less than i used to.

Hi
Sorry to hear about this. The teeth won’t shorten over time of their own accord. Does the gum look as if it is raised (and you are showing more tooth)? Or do you think that now the teeth are more aligned you are showing the front teeth more? Or do you feel it is because they are more prominent / forward that they appear bigger?
I would suggest you book a review appointment with your orthodontist and let them know your concerns which I am sure can be corrected.
Good luck!
