Can Invisalign help with overbite caused by thumb sucking?

April 4th, 2011
Q.

Hi, my open bite was caused from thumb sucking until the age of 15, I am now 40. I dont want the option of surgery or to wear metal braces and so I would like to know if invisalign would be helpful to resolve this open bite which is about 3-5 mm wide.
Thanks

Can Invisalign fix my open bite caused by thumb sucking. My dentist said it is a hard case to predict. Is this accurate?

October 19th, 2010
Q.
I am wondering if you have had many cases where an open bite, as I have, has been treated well wtih Invisalign. I was a pfolific thum sucker in my younger years until I managed to stop at around seven My teeth now don\’t completely meet at the front though people don\’t seem to notice but I do. My dentit said Invisalign would be able to treat my open bites but that this type of case is hard to predict. Your opinion on this matter would be welcome.,

Can Invisalign fix teeth that have gone bad by sucking thumb?

October 13th, 2010
Q.
I had braces when I was younger but they went bad when I was still sucking my thumb. I had problems at home which was the reason for this. I am now in my early 20s and wondering if Invisalign can help to fix my teeth again?,

Should I complain about Simpli5 treatment that has failed to sufficiently move my ‘fangs’?

October 4th, 2010
Q.
I\’m currently undergoing the Simpli5 treatment (I\’m on my 5th set of aligners) and my main concern when I first saw my orthodontist was my top incisors. When I was younger I sucked my thumb so my front two teeth stuck forward, I had a brace but it only pulled back the front two teeth so I felt like my incisors were like fangs. The orthodentist I visited recommended the Simpli5 treatment as a cheaper option to the Invisalign aligners as there wasn\’t much movement required. When I had the 3rd set of aligners there was no discomfort or movement on the top left but there was on the top right. When I put in the 4th set there was no discomfort or movement on the top teeth at all. Now I have the last set in just one of my front two teeth is slightly sore but again no movement on my fangs. I pointed this out to the orthodentist and he said the teeth are small and require small rotation which maybe couldn\’t be achieved. However the mould that was sent back from Simpli5 of the expected outcome of the treatment showed my \’fangs\’ in alignment. My orthodentist is now recommending fitted braces to finish the treatment, but the whole point of having Simpli5 was that I didn\’t have a mouthful of metal! I don\’t know where to turn next – should I be asking my orthodentist to complain to Simpl5 on mybehalf, should he send a mould of how my teeth have ended up so that Simpli5 can correct this? Should I have had 12 weeks worth of treatment with no movement on the top teeth? I\’m really disappointed and don\’t know where to turn, I have to admit that my \’fangs\’ have moved and look a lot better than they did however 1 has moved more than the other and it now looks odd. I would really appreciate any advice. Many thanks.,
