Would Invisalign be able to treat an overbite?

Q.
Hello,

i have a very large overbite and wondered if invisalign is strong enough to treat this? In my general research it always seems to be metal or braces with blocks that are recommended for treating overbites but at the same time they are horrendously ugly and uncomfortable to wear.
My overbite is about an inch over do you think invisalign could treat this and would i need any teeth taking out?

many thanks

A.
Hi
Do you mean an overbite (where the top teeth go over and cover the lower teeth so they are less visible) or an overjet (where the upper teeth are in front of the lower teeth).
First of all you need to look at the jaw position – is one of the jaws in not in the ‘ideal’ position. If so any type of brace will struggle to achieve the ideal tooth alignment.
Next you must consider how far the teeth have to come back – this is often achieve more easily by removing teeth and pulling the front teeth back, into the space. Fixed braces are generally quicker at treating these cases as they are attached to the teeth with blocks as you describe. However they don’t have to be visible – you can consider something like Damon Clear (tooth coloured braces) or lingual braces (braces on the inside of the teeth and truly invisible, eg Incognito).
I would suggest a consultation and discussion with an orthodontist about your options.
Good luck!
