How can I correct my overcrowded teeth?

November 13th, 2012
Q.

I am 28 years old and I have crowded teeth both up and bottom. When I was young (17-18 years old) I had metal-fixed braces for about 2 years which fixed the problem but as soon as I took them off my teeth got their previous position (especially the bottom ones) again maybe because I was not wearing the retainers. I would like my teeth straight again so I am considering having Invisalign (because it is invisible) but I have got some issues: a)I have not got my wisdom teeth yet and I believe that when they come off they will push my teeth making them misaligned again. Would it be so? Should I worry about that? b) When I removed the metal braces which are considered the most effective solution for teeth straightening my teeth got misaligned again. How can I make sure that this will not happen again with the aligners c) Is there any other invisible way to have my teeth straight except from Invisalign? I had a consultation for having Invisalign at a dental clinic in my town. They said that I can have Invisalign but I guess they could say anything in order to have customers I am really confused. Any advice would be appreciated.

How can I contact Invisalign about transferring dentists?

November 7th, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr Thorne

I am in the position of needing to contact Invisalign direct but cannot find an email address for Invisalign customer services please?

My original orthodentist will not release my records to the new one and so I need to contact Invisalign direct to authorise them to arrange handing them over and to send another replacement final aligner urgently but I cannot find an email address to contact them. To telephone from the UK and try to find the right person to speak to would probably be very expensive .

I have had a horrible time with Invisalign I was prescribed them to prevent further bite erosion to the back my front upper teeth plus my orthodentist said they may as well incorperate some very minor evening out and a small crossover (none of which I was bothered about but as it was included I thought ‘why not?’) .

I am at the stage 1 year and 10 months (due to various delays and mistakes) and £4500 later (for just 10 lowers and 16 uppers) of finding that the retainers are a misnomer. Instead of holding the position of the last aligner they fight it & are sending /allowing my teeth back to where they were at the worst time with protruding buck teeth, large overbite and big gaps between visible teeth at the front.) Iwas happy enough with my teeth as they were and only took this route to save my front teeth so am upset and angry the fact that my smile will be ruined for no good reason unless I can resolve this quickly.

I eventually had to walk away from the original orthodentist who refused to return aligners to Invisalign at various times when they either did not fit or produced the horrendous results detailed above. A new practitioner has been sympathetic and helpful (especially as I was apparantly massively overcharged originally) taken impressions and supplied retainers which were not proved by the previous dentist. He replaced the first retainers FOC when they clearly weren’t maintiing position, but now the only option forward is either £800 to try more rigid retainers (which again may not work) or start a new course for £2500 which I can neither afford nor face after my past experience and living with the restricted lifestyle for so long.

I feel contacting Invisalign direct is the only answer as there have been errors and mistakes they are unaware of and so may be prepared to help with if informed.

Many thanks for any assistance you can offer

How simple is it to change dentist whilst having Invisalign?

November 7th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I would like to switch from my current provider (a dentist) to an orthodontist. I’ve already had my consultation with the orthodontist and he has agreed to take on my case. However, I would like to know, can my dentist withhold any of my information or charge me any fees for releasing the information. I was told that dentist pay Invisalign a fee to obtain the supplies and if I’m interested in switching, I will have to pay the dentist her fees, is that correct? The reason for my desire to switch: my dentist did not explain to me how long my treatment was, when I ask her specific questions related to my treatment, she tells me to read on-line and find out all the information required. I was not interested in having my bottom teeth treated, upon her insistence and being informed that it would only be for 6 months, I later found out from her that it might be a year and a half, and again, she did not provide me with any clear timelines or reasons for the treatment.

Why won’t Invisalign Lite work to close the gaps in my daughters teeth?

November 6th, 2012
Q.

My 17 year old daughter has been given a treatment plan for Invisalign and Invisalign Lite. The dentist has repeatedly tried to steer us to the full Invisalign treatment, which costs almost double. He has said that if we went with Invisalign Lite, “it would look fine.” He has offered us “14 aligners to align the front teeth better improve the vertical dimension to provide more space for future treatments, but this will not fully close the spaces between the extracted teeth.” The extracted teeth were baby teeth (ur3 and ul3) that were removed because my daughter had two ingrown upper canines that were impinging on the roots of her two front upper teeth. We just don’t seem to understand why he tells us that Invisalign Lite won’t close the spaces at the front.

Would a gum shield help me to stop biting down all the time?

November 6th, 2012
Q.

I tend to bite a lot in the day time- like teething. I don’t know why I can’t help it is like biting the thumb and things just habit? I always stop myself when I realise I’m doing it but the problem is I’ve been doing it already for two or three minutes. I also have gapped teeth so all I’m doing is making my oral health worse (not that the two are linked I mean in general) my friend said I could get a gum shield thing to help prevent this but then I had an idea, could Invisalign help me with the bite issue? Being as it takes the form of a gum shield type thing? If not what would I do as I am now looking to have my teeth pulled together.
