I Have A Lot Of Pain With My Invisalign Treatment, And I Keep Taking My Aligner Out Because Of The Pain. Please Give Me Advice.

Q.
Hi. I’ve had nothing but pain since investing in Invisalign treatment. It just won’t let up and it gets worse, every time I have a new set of aligners. My gums look very swollen. My dentist has said that this is bound to happen and I did expect some pain but it’s honestly constant. I’m not being dramatic and I’ve tried painkillers but at the moment the aligners are out more than they’re being left in. Can you please give me some advice as to what I can do? I don’t have much time left but feel the treatment hasn’t really changed my teeth because as I said, I always have to take them out. I haven’t told my orthodontist this and I don’t know what to do. Thank you for your advice in advance! I’m really hoping you can help me.

Hi there! It surprises me that your gums are swollen and you are experiencing so much discomfort! I have found that the hardest set to get used to is usually only the first one, as you are not experienced in placing and removing the aligners, but by the second set there are usually no issues at all! Please do mention it to your dentist to make sure the aligners are fitting you correctly otherwise you may need a mid-course correction. You should tell your orthodontist that you take your aligner out as they may be able to help you. Kind regards, Dr Vasileia Manoloutsou.
