Is it ok to have Invisalign after suffering with gum disease?

Q.
Is it ok to have invisalign if you have had gum disease in the past? I had it about 5 years ago and my teeth haved moved because of it. I would like to have my smile straightened out with invisalign so no one will see it, but am worried that my gum disease will come back, because i have to have the brace in my mouth all the time. What do you think?

thank you

A.
Hi there! Unfortunately after periodontal disease teeth can migrate into a new, non favorable position. There is no problem to have Invisalign, is actually a preferable brace for periodontal patients. It is removable, so your oral hygiene is not impeded and the orthodontic force to be applied to your teeth is controlled. Make sure you see an experienced Invisalign dentist and you have nothing to worry about! Best of luck with your treatment, Vasileia
