Is it usual to straighten teeth using crowns instead of braces?

Q.
How common is it to straighten teeth only by crowns and not using any braces? My cosmetic dentist is proposing to do 22 crowns! I am 66yrs old and I have a lot of big fillings. He says he can create space (1mm) by changing my bite and that my jaw muscles will accomodate this. He says my crooked teeth will not easliy move with a brace but says my teeth when crowned, will be re-aligned. I have a very deep bite on my front teeth resulting in excessive wear on LR1&2 and LL1&2. Advice please

Hi,
as I am sure you can appreciate, this is a very difficult case to comment on without fully assessing you and your teeth both clinically and radiographically.
22 crowns certainly sounds like a lot of restorative work but the best solution for you is very much dependent upon the current condition and position of your existing teeth.
If you are unsure, my advice would be to consider having a couple more dental consultations to see if any other solutions could work for you also.
I hope this helps,
Best wishes
