My dentist has given me less aligners than I would have expected for my estimated one year treatment. What does this mean?

Q. I was told by my dentist that my invisalign treatment would only be about one year but then when i was given my aligners they came in a bag laballed 1 of 11 so does this mean my treatment wont be as long as first expected? or is there some hidden away?,
A. It means that there are 11 aligners before you finish which should take you approximately 22 weeks (or 5 months) to get through. After this period, the dentist will review how well your teeth have moved. If there have been some teeth that have been stubborn then new impressions will be needed to make more aligners. This is usually at no charge to you but there may be 9 aligners that you need and that would take another 4 months. So all in all, it might take a year but hopefully a lot less!
