How invisible are the invisalign braces?

Helloooo okay so i\’m 19 years old and my parents are buying me braces as a birthday present (because they cost so much!) i\’m considering invisalign but have a few questions. Firstly, how invisible are they? how long on average does a person have to wear them for AND do they hurt? i had fixed metal ones before and they were agonizing! thank you dr :),

My teeth are aching lots and my gums are very tender, why is this?
