Q. i know aligners are supposed to be a great alternative ot metal braces cbut can you tell me if they are a safe option? It doesn\’t sit very comfortably with me the idea of having plastic in my mouth for such a long period of time. An answer would be appreciated. ,
A. medical grade plastics are as harmful as drinking from a plastic bottle. the materials have been thoroughly tested for allergies. Metal brackets contain metal alloys which are not harmful either, but they do react with saliva etc and also are more attractive to germs. Aligners are easier to clean and wear with little pain and in fact gum disease does improve with aligners. Dr R kumar BDSLDSRCS
