Is teeth filing as part of invisalign treatment damaging to the teeth?

Q. I have read that invisalign often requires teeth to be filed away, or some such method, to make space for the teeth to straighten. This does not sound all that beneficial to the well-being of teeth. Is it safe, or can it damage tooth structure?
A. Filing the teeth is only done as a last resort by ethical dentists, and usually about 0.25mm from  a tooth. It is not detrimental to the teeth. But many dentists are filing away the contacts at the front and at the beginning of the treatment, instead of moving back teeth to create space.
You should always ask for full Invisalign and expect to pay 3000 GBP plus for this. Any less means more trimming.
