Q. Invisalign looks like the best choice when it comes to getting my teeth straightened. It is my top teeth that need correcting due to over-crowding. I would like to know if it is possible to straighten teeth with invisalign without the need to remove teeth, or whether this is sometimes necessary?
A. On the very odd occasion you may need to extract a tooth to create space to correct the overcrowding but it is more commonly done with IPR. This is a technique with involves shaving a little off in between the teeth to make each tooth a little more slender and thus creating the space.
Studies have shown that this does not increase the chance of tooth decay or sensitivity (as there is still plenty of enamel in betweeen the teeth); it means that you will not need to sacrifice a tooth or go through the experience of an extraction!
