is there a easy way to remove my invisalign aligners?

Q. Dear Dr Kailesh, can you tell me if there is an easy way to remove my invisalign aligners? as taking them off seems to hurt and be hard to do but putting them on is easy. I have been wearing invisalign for a week now.
A. Hello,

It is best to start to trying to remove the aligners from the cheek side, as far back as you can and as it becomes looser, to move your index fingers (uppers) or inverted thumbs (lowers) further forwards. I find this easiest to show patients this method to remove them for the first time.

Obviously as the teeth move and the aligner has been worn for a little while, there is move “give” and this makes it easier to remove until the next aligner.

When I see patients for review appointment and ask them to remove the aligner, sometimes they tend to do it another way to what I showed them initially. Patient use their dominant hand (e.g. right hand), use their index finger and thumb, reach up to the top left of their mouth, release the brace from the cheek side and the roof of mouth side at the same time. Then they do the same with the top right side of their mouth and release that side. Once the sides are released, then the front is easy.

The first week will always be a steep learning curve, just try to persevere and trust me, it will get easier.

All the best.
