Would molar distalisation help with invisalign process?

Q. Hi, how much are molars usually distalised to straighten teeth during invisalign treatment? I don’t want to get my teeth filed so am getting distalisation instead. Also, would distalised teeth go back to their original positions quicker? Thanks.
A.

In theory it would be great to distalise molars to create space in the front of the mouth however in practice it is very difficult to be able to do.

Firstly, the molars have 3 large roots usually with a lot of bone surrounding them, which means they are anchored into the jaw bone very firmly. Secondly, the dentist needs to create space behind the molars so it has somewhere to go and this is very difficult to do because it is so far back.

I would be very dubious of using Invisalign to distalise the molars anymore than 1 or 1.5mm.

With fixed braces and headgear this type of movement is more achievable but very limited with Invisalign.
