What treatment should I choose to correct my bite?

April 30th, 2012
Q.

Hi, when I smile my back teeth meet but my front teeth don’t, I think my dentist said it was a high in bite but I could be wrong, he said to get it fixed I would have to have my jaw broken and it all re-set he also said I would be awake!. It’s never really bothered me but recently I’ve noticed it seems to be getting worse, I can’t bite sellotape and eating things like sandwiches with tomato or cucumber on is becoming harder as I can’t bite through it so usually end up with it hanging out of my mouth which as you can imagine is embarrassing. I was just wondering if there is another way of getting the problem sorted and if not is there away of being put to sleep to have it done, I’m not the best patient and usually have a little cry and shake no matter how small the procedure so the thought of being awake whilst they broke my jaw is petrifying. Also I know that I wouldnt be able to have this done under the NHS so I was wondering how much this is likely to cost to have done Thank you for taking the time out to read this is much appreciated.

I have accidentally thrown away several Invisalign aligners, can I have them replaced?

April 30th, 2012
Q.

I threw away four upper trays while doing a spring clean. Oops!  was about a year and a half ago. Still have pkg with bar code on them. Problem is I do not want to deal with original Dr. as she has lost her license for a period of time since my original pesrscription. I have an appointment with my current dentist for a consultation. Can he reorder the lost trays and then request subsequent trays from Invisiligns old data. I do not have my molds either. God Bless!

Would a UK dentist be able to take over my Invisalign treatment, which I started in the US?

April 30th, 2012
Q.

Is there a dentist in London, UK that would be willing to take a new patient with invisalign already? I began my treatment in Miami, FL where I currently live, but will have to move in July to London for 2.5 years… So I’m wondering if there is any dentist that will be willing to service and deal with any of the discomforts sometimes come with the aligners (i.e. having to “sand” them down).

Can a 14 year old have Invisalign treatment?

April 30th, 2012
Q.

Hello

I am looking for treatment for my 14 year old who is very self conscious about their smile. Do you think you can treat him with invisalign, as he as quite a bit of crowding at the front of his mouth. I really want to give him back his confidence and am willing to try fixed braces if needs be but would prefer something more unnoticeable like invisalign.

Do you think it will work for him? This problem is really affecting him and I do not want him to grow up with no confidence due to his dental problem.Thank you for your time.

My husband has suffered tooth misalignment after a car accident, can he have a brace?

April 30th, 2012
Q.

Hello, my husband had a car accident just over a year ago and three of his teeth at the front of his mouth took some of the impact. whilst they didnt break or crack he feels that these three particulat teeth are not aligned with the rest of his teeth but have bucked backwards slightly. His teeth are painful but he won’t go to the dentist becuase he is worried that they willl remove his teeth.
I have been researching online about different treatments and I wondered if the invisal brace would help my husband?
He has somewhat of a phobia and won’t even research it on the internet. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Can I swap my fixed bracs for Invisalign aligners?

April 27th, 2012
Q.

Hello,
I currently wear a metal brace on both my upper and lower teeth which was done on the NHS. I have recently come into some money and would like to switch to a more discreet brace and I have been reading about them online such as Invisalign and the Inman aligner but my main worry is that as I have been wearing metal braces for over a year I won’t be able to switch. Could you give me any advice?

Would Invisalign be a good brace choice for my 14 year old son?

April 12th, 2012
Q.

Hello Doctor Thorne

Do you believe that invisalign would be a good treatment for a 14 year old? My son’s front teeth are crossed and he feels very uncomfortable with himself. I would like to help him get the smile he wants but without having to feel embarrassed about have wires all over his teeth that people can see, so Invisalign sounds perfect. Is he likely to find a good level of treatment with invisalign?

Thank you

Is it usual to straighten teeth using crowns instead of braces?

April 5th, 2012
Q.

How common is it to straighten teeth only by crowns and not using any braces? My cosmetic dentist is proposing to do 22 crowns! I am 66yrs old and I have a lot of big fillings. He says he can create space (1mm) by changing my bite and that my jaw muscles will accomodate this. He says my crooked teeth will not easliy move with a brace but says my teeth when crowned, will be re-aligned. I have a very deep bite on my front teeth resulting in excessive wear on LR1&2 and LL1&2. Advice please

Would Invisalign be able to widen my narrow smile?

April 5th, 2012
Q.

hi, at a younger age i had 1 tooth removed ( right lateral incisor) and now the gap has filled over the years. This was removed because the denist said the tooth is growing from the top. My smile is not as wide as it should be and it feels that my top jaw is narrow. The side where the missing tooth is has misaligned teeth because of the way they have settled in without a lateral incisor. Can this be fixed by expanding the top for space with invisalign and implanting the missing lateral incisor? Thank You
