Should My Aligners Feel This Loose?

September 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Sepehrara. I’ve got a small problem but I don’t want to ignore it in case it’s really important and ruins my whole treatment. It doesn’t feel like my aligners are fitting properly. My first set really hurt my gums and I was really aware of them, and my gums only stopped hurting when I started with the next set. I’m still on the 2nd set but they feel quite loose, like there’s no strain at all. Is this normal, or should I feel more pressure? I don’t think they fit right in comparison with my first set. What do you think?

Should I Get Braces or Veneers?

August 18th, 2014
Q.

Hello! I’m really hoping you can give me some assistance. I’ve got a very large and noticeable gap between my two front teeth at the top, which I’ve had since childhood. I’m 27 now and would like to have something done to fix it, and my NHS dentist has suggested private treatment. I don’t really know of any private dentists in my area though so am having a bit of trouble deciding what to do. I’ve done some research online and have been looking at veneers as well as braces. Which would you suggest?

My Aligner is Bent. Should I Visit My Orthodontist?

August 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel, hope you are well. I’ve been wearing Invisalign aligners for a good 2 months now and so far am very happy as there have been no problems. But the other day I dropped my aligner on the kitchen floor and it sort of looks bent now. It still fits alright but should I go to my orthodontist about it anyway? I’ve got quite a while to go until my next visit but I’m worried that the bend will affect my treatment even though it’s only very slight. Do you think I should make an appointment?

Will Tooth-Grinding Wear Away at Invisalign Aligners?

July 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Drs Cannell & Stafford. I suffer with Bruxism and have to wear a mouth guard at night to stop me from grinding my teeth. My teeth are very crooked though so I would like to have braces. My dentist says I should have traditional fixed braces but I would much prefer to have Invisalign. I can see why my dentist doesn’t think I should have Invisalign as I wouldn’t be able to wear the guard at night but I would like a second opinion anyway. Would my tooth grinding wear away at the aligners? I really don’t want big metal braces so are there other options for me if I can’t have Invisalign? Thank you.

My Teeth Are Still Not Straight After 23 Months, What Can I Do?

July 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Sepehrara,

I’ve been having Invisalign treatment for nearly 23 months now and my teeth are still a very far cry from straight. My dentist hasn’t been great to be honest and he initially predicted that it would take 8-12 months to sort out my crooked teeth but it’s now been pretty much 2 years and barely anything has changed. My dentist is now suggesting alternatives such as veneers but I’ve already paid over £3000 for Invisalign so that I’d have natural straight teeth. I’m currently on my 3rd set of refinements. What can be done about this?

Does Chlorine Stain Invisalign Aligners?

June 25th, 2014
Q.

Hi, I have a query about Invisalign. I swim professionally, and have been looking into using Invisalign to straighten my teeth. Would I be able to do this? I swim for a few hours every day, would I be able to keep the aligners in? My concern is they might get stained by the chlorine in the water. I’m seeing an orthodontist next week but I thought I’d ask for some advice from you before my consultation. Thank you.

Can Crowns Be Used to Straighten Teeth?

June 18th, 2014
Q.

Hello, I have a question to ask. I’m 65 years old and have been to see my dentist about having my teeth straightened. I assumed he would suggest braces of some sort, but he wants to do it by using crowns – 20 of them! He told me that my teeth won’t move easily with a brace, but when they’ve been crowned they will be re-aligned, so not crooked anymore. I just thought I’d come to you for a second opinion. Can teeth be straightened with crowns?

Can I Switch From Damon Braces to 6 Month Smiles?

June 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello, I was wondering if it’s possible to switch treatments. I recently had Damon braces fitted, but then I found out about 6 Month Smiles afterwards and they sound better. Can I have the Damon braces removed and replaced with 6 Month Smiles? The reason I’ve got braces is to adjust my front teeth into a better position. The lower 2 and upper 3 are slightly crooked and I’ve previously had 3 teeth removed.

Is Invisalign Treatment Suitable for My 13 Year Old Son?

June 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello there, I have a question on behalf of my 13 year old son. Now that all his teeth have come through, we are considering braces as they are quite crooked and lacks confidence at school. He says he would feel much less awkward wearing Invisalign because they’re much less visible than the chunky metal braces. Would he be able to have Invisalign treatment even though he’s only 13? Thank you for any advice you might be able to offer.

Are There Any Discreet Braces Suitable for People That Grind Their Teeth?

June 5th, 2014
Q.

Hi, I’ve been looking into braces for a long time now but I grind my teeth at night. My dentist has been trying to get this under control but it’s still a really bad habit of mine. Is there any discreet brace you can recommend that would be suitable for me? My teeth were already misaligned before I started grinding my teeth…so that isn’t the problem! I wanted Invisalign but have been told because they’re aligners they won’t be suitable because of the grinding. Thank you for your help!
