Should I Pay For Another Aligner After Mine Broke?

February 12th, 2013
Q.

Hi Adam, i have been wearing invisaline braces for over 3 years now, iv been unfortunate with my teeth not moving as to plan so im on my 3 rd set now, im currently on my 3rd to last retainer on the top, my lower one’s finished over 6 months ago, i got told by my dentist to carry on wearing my last bottom aligner at night which i have been doing, unfortunately at the weekend my bottom brace snapped in half, with it being used for over 6 months this did not suprsie me as it was discoloured and not very nice to put in and probably brittle with age, upon contacting my dentist he said i would have to pay over £80 to replace! i find this ridiculous with the amount of money i have already paid and can’t afford this. with me being five weeks off completion i suggested taking the impression for the final retainers but he said this is not possible, i am very disapointed with the service and will not be recomended invisaline to anyone and infact making people aware that the service is not good atal with lots of hidden costs,(ie end retainers to pay for!!) also in the end i have been told one of my teeth will have to get a veneer crown as one of my tooth is not moving down atal this is because it is already a veneer and the retaining pieces that get fused to the veneer kept breaking off, this new veneer crown he quoted over £500, at the end of the day this is not my fault i have been to the dentist to get invisaline, i get the quote see what my teeth will look like in the end and then all this comes out now. i am not happy and expect an answer to these problems. thanks for your time.

Would Invisalign be effective to get rid of my cross bite?

December 13th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Thorne, I’m a 32 year old full time business woman and mother of 3 and I have terrible teeth. When I was younger, I was told I didn’t need braces but as I’ve grown up my teeth have gotten progressively worse and now they’re just awful. They’re really affecting my confidence and need to be sorted out as soon as possible. But I’m afraid braces will seriously affect the way I’m perceived by my work colleagues with big metal braces. However my teeth are very severely crossed. I have a cross bite and my teeth are all crushing into each other and are now causing me a lot of pain. Is Invisalign going to be as effective in straightening my teeth as a metal brace?
Thank you doctor, I look forward to hearing your response.

Can I get a replacement for my broken retainer?

December 7th, 2012
Q.

Hello Adam. My upper retainer has broken. I notice it has a
number on it. Is it possible to get a replacement made of the same material?
The dentist’s where I had the Invisalign course has now closed down. They made
me a replacement once for a previous broken upper, but the material quality was
terrible, more like rubber. I was hoping you could point me in the right
direction to obtaining a correct replacement. Many thanks.

How can I contact Invisalign about transferring dentists?

November 7th, 2012
Q.

Dear Dr Thorne

I am in the position of needing to contact Invisalign direct but cannot find an email address for Invisalign customer services please?

My original orthodentist will not release my records to the new one and so I need to contact Invisalign direct to authorise them to arrange handing them over and to send another replacement final aligner urgently but I cannot find an email address to contact them. To telephone from the UK and try to find the right person to speak to would probably be very expensive .

I have had a horrible time with Invisalign I was prescribed them to prevent further bite erosion to the back my front upper teeth plus my orthodentist said they may as well incorperate some very minor evening out and a small crossover (none of which I was bothered about but as it was included I thought ‘why not?’) .

I am at the stage 1 year and 10 months (due to various delays and mistakes) and £4500 later (for just 10 lowers and 16 uppers) of finding that the retainers are a misnomer. Instead of holding the position of the last aligner they fight it & are sending /allowing my teeth back to where they were at the worst time with protruding buck teeth, large overbite and big gaps between visible teeth at the front.) Iwas happy enough with my teeth as they were and only took this route to save my front teeth so am upset and angry the fact that my smile will be ruined for no good reason unless I can resolve this quickly.

I eventually had to walk away from the original orthodentist who refused to return aligners to Invisalign at various times when they either did not fit or produced the horrendous results detailed above. A new practitioner has been sympathetic and helpful (especially as I was apparantly massively overcharged originally) taken impressions and supplied retainers which were not proved by the previous dentist. He replaced the first retainers FOC when they clearly weren’t maintiing position, but now the only option forward is either £800 to try more rigid retainers (which again may not work) or start a new course for £2500 which I can neither afford nor face after my past experience and living with the restricted lifestyle for so long.

I feel contacting Invisalign direct is the only answer as there have been errors and mistakes they are unaware of and so may be prepared to help with if informed.

Many thanks for any assistance you can offer

How simple is it to change dentist whilst having Invisalign?

November 7th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I would like to switch from my current provider (a dentist) to an orthodontist. I’ve already had my consultation with the orthodontist and he has agreed to take on my case. However, I would like to know, can my dentist withhold any of my information or charge me any fees for releasing the information. I was told that dentist pay Invisalign a fee to obtain the supplies and if I’m interested in switching, I will have to pay the dentist her fees, is that correct? The reason for my desire to switch: my dentist did not explain to me how long my treatment was, when I ask her specific questions related to my treatment, she tells me to read on-line and find out all the information required. I was not interested in having my bottom teeth treated, upon her insistence and being informed that it would only be for 6 months, I later found out from her that it might be a year and a half, and again, she did not provide me with any clear timelines or reasons for the treatment.

I don’t think my teeth are straight enough after Invisalign treatment

October 23rd, 2012
Q.

I have completed an Invisalign treatment. At least that’s what the dentist says. I still have a lower canine which is leaning slightly in front of the teeth next door. I was hoping to get it straightened but the dentist told me that canine cannot be moved because the root is too big. Is it true? If so, shouldn’t I have been told before I agreed to the treatment? Looking at picture, my teeth are nowhere near as bad as the case study.Thank you for taking the time to read my question and I look forward to reading your reply. Thanks.

I am unsure if I am suitable for Invisalign?

October 16th, 2012
Q.

I just started my Invisalign case. I’m on my first aligner. The first dentist I went to told me Invisalign couldn’t work for me, I was disappointed but didn’t give up. I went to another dentist and he looked at it once and said I’m perfect for Invisalign. But from reading peoples questions and complaints, I’m starting to get worried about if I’m been taken for ride for my money. So is it possible for someone to turn me down and some other dentist see me and say I’m perfect for Invisalign.I would really appreciate any help and advise that you can give me. I look forward to hearing from you shortly.

After Invisalign treatment do you get a retainer?

October 4th, 2012
Q.

Hello doctor, I have been looking at getting Invisalign treatment but am nervous as I have had braces before, which solved most of my problems but then my teeth drifted back after a number of years and now I’m basically back to square one. The reason I have chosen Invisalign then is because I have heard that you are given a lifelong retainer after your treatment is complete. Is this true? What does the retainer look like and is it just worn at night? Thank you for your time.

How many times a day should I brush my teeth?

September 26th, 2012
Q.

I know you are supposed to clean your teeth and aligner after each time you eat. But, instead of three meals a day I will usually have five smaller ones. Because of this I have to brush my teeth quite a lot. I have now read that brushing teeth too often can wear away enamel. Should I limit how often I do it? Also, because of the aligners I’ve been brushing my teeth too often and I feel as if my gums are receding they look like they are anyway, how many times a day should I brush my teeth? I feel the aligners make my mouth feel unclean.
